Meet Marguex
Favorite way to practice self-care
I love to sleep and just rest in general. I enjoy reading mystery books and binge-watching history, weather, and true crime shows/documentaries.
Favorite hobby/interests outside of clinical practice
I enjoy the process of informal learning, which means I learn about a topic and do a deep dive to learn everything that I can about it. Some of the topics that I love learning about are general history and major events, weather events, travel, and New Orleans. New Orleans is a newer topic for me, and the culture and rich history are so fascinating!
Favorite theorist
Carl Rogers; His Client-Centered, Humanistic theory speaks to me and aligns with my values as a person and a professional therapist. The components of client-centered therapy, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, are important to me and to the strength of counseling relationships.
What you would say to someone who is on the fence about participating in therapy
Being on the fence about participating in therapy is understandable. I suggest that if someone is undecided about therapy, they do research and ask questions to learn more. These steps provide learning opportunities without feeling the need to commit.
Top three skills that you bring into session with you
Unconditional Positive Regard: Complete, non-judgmental acceptance and support
Genuineness and Authenticity: I present honestly and enter the counseling space as my true self.
Empathy and Compassion: I am invested in what clients may share, and I am easily able to “out myself in their shoes” during the session.
Beliefs on Therapy
Therapy provides the opportunity to learn more about yourself in a safe, non-judgmental space with someone who is trained in different theories and techniques to support you in the way that you want and need. A counseling session should be a place to relax, take deep breaths, and just let go. For one hour, the space and conversation is all about you without outside influence. It is definitely a special place.
